GREY WAGTAIL AT MOUSEHOLE, CORNWALL...

Grey Wagtail @ Mousehole

Eyes were distracted, then wrenched from the unsettled,
Uneven, untidy shallows
And their irritable, untenable, fussy waves,
By grey and yellow movements
On grey and yellow landscape
Of boulders, liberally besmirched by dull primrose lichen,
To the flicking tail, shifting wings and short undulating flight
Of a wagtail, in the glorified adornment of sunlight…

Yet although its activity revealed its camouflage frail,
It stood its ground, eyed me anxiously,
Hesitated to make an escape
Then posed before my lens, deliciously…
